on time freedom, and how to create your own
Okay, if I could sum up the main goal for every person in the Fearless Femmes community, it would be TIME FREEDOM.
i.e., waking up every day and doing whatever the fuck you feel like.
I’ve been doing this for nearly 9 years now, and I can attest: it rules–if you do it right.
In fact, I just overhauled my calendar rhythm so that I get:
One contiguous month off, twice a year
The last week of every month off
No meetings on Mondays or Fridays, ever
On meeting days, meetings happen between 10am and 3pm.
You’ll notice a rhythm for a given year, a month, a week, and a day there. It’s unique to me, like a fingerprint. You have your own :)
It works amazingly. My clients still feel like they have tons of access to me, and I get to spend the rest of the time studying what I’m most interested in, practicing my creative craft, and working ON my business (rather than IN it) at periodic intervals so I can make sure my product is still in alignment with my desires.
Question for you: if you had a work schedule perfectly suited to you, like mine is to me and my clients’ are to them… how would EVERYTHING change?
Now, do I still benefit from structure and accountability? OF COURSE. Like any creative ADHD person with melancholic tendencies, I start to spiral if I go too long with LITERALLY no demands on my time.
But what if those demands were strictly things you looked forward to, and designed for yourself?
Meetings… but only with people you like and are inspired by, and only at times when you tend to feel energized.
Admin tasks… but only once a week at a pre-set time where you knock it all out at once.
Deep work… but only on things you’re wildly excited to dive into, and are aligned with your values.
Everything else is either ditched, or delegated.
In the next blog, we’ll walk through the five simple steps to create this custom calendar for yourself.
Love,
Becca
