This One Goes Out To The Working Moms

I talk to women all day. Mostly on video. Really ambitious, smart professional women. A lot of them are moms.

To the moms: I want to take this moment to let you know that I see your strength shining through as your kids run around you while we’re on the call.

As they slam doors repeatedly for attention.

As they overturn the dog’s water bowl, if you put them down for 30 seconds.

As they attempt to yank the earbuds out of your ears by the cord.

As you tenderly and patiently breastfeed them.

As you allow them to hug you while you’re working, because that was the rule you set for them if they were going to interrupt you.

As you calmly, firmly set boundaries.

All while NEVER dropping focus on your personal growth, your dreams, or me, the near-stranger on camera in front of you.

I know I’m painting a rosy picture. I know it gets messy and overwhelming and sometimes disastrous. Potentially career-stalling. We’ve talked about it.

But in those moments, I hope this mirror reflects back to you what you’re capable of.

This one’s for the moms working from home. The moms without childcare. The 1 in 3 women doing essential work right now, a stat that doesn't count caregiving as a job. The moms-to-be, watchful in this crisis as they wait for their new arrival.

We love and support you. Though not nearly well enough. I, for one, will fight for you.
